Monument to Firefighters

Chernobyl's firefighters had no idea what they were in for when they rushed to put out the flames of reactor number 4. Within days, two dozen were dead from radiation poisoning. Legend has it they were told to drink vodka to protect them. Without their heroic efforts, the disaster would have been far more severe.
