Shoot to Score

Sport was more than just a pastime for the ancient Maya - the game of pok-atok was played in a sacred ballpark, and the winning team's captain would be sacrificed as an honour. Seven opposing players would try and get a rubber ball through the ring, combining many elements found in soccer, basketball, hockey, and first degree murder. One goal was all that was needed to win. Incidentally, the wheel was not used by the ancient Maya.
