View Photos for: Only in Tokyo

There were some moments that left me shaking my head, muttering “only in Tokyo!” Like the singing Elvis’s, or the subways at rush hour, or the goth-punk-whackjob Harajuku girls. Coupled with the gorgeous temples and shrines, colorful kimonos, traditional ceremonies and full-on karaoke, my week in Tokyo is a compulsive thumbnail clicker. View Photos for: Kaunton, KL and into Tokyo

A mosque, a waterfall, a view and sayonora Malaysia. Everything gets decidedly weirder when I arrive in Tokyo to find fashion, pigs, Gonzo accountants, models and $200 buck melons. The koi cooperated at the Emperor’s gardens, as did the doggies on the subway and the barber shop. Richard Gere is not amused. Click on the thumbnails for more info.

  • Flying Doctors and the Migration of the Wildebeest

This week in East Africa, I discover two sides to a coin. The luxury, beauty and exotic wildlife of the ultimate safari, complete with butlers, five-star tents, and the migration of the wildebeest. In Nairobi, a different story, as I take to the air with the Flying Doctors, participating in a medical evacuation, and seeing the human cost of violence. This is Africa, and there is nowhere else like it.

  • Heat, Dust and Dirt Bikes in Egypt

The traffic, chaos and 3000 years of bureaucracy take their toll, but I manage to Belly Dance over the Nile anyway. After clocking in at the pyramids, it’s off to the Sinai to rock the desert by ATV, dirt bike and dune buggy. Egypt has stayed much the same since my last visit 16 years ago. I haven’t.

  • A Revolution in Cuba

Plenty of thoughts about this controversial island in the Caribbean, where tourists are herded into all-inclusive resorts while the songs of Revolution still stir. When you add a large group of journalists, expect something in the middle in this gonzo-fuelled rant about the beating heart of change.
