View Photos for: Snowboarding in the Andes, Luxury in the Desert

Returning to Chile in style, I hit the snowcats for breathtaking alpine bluebird snowboarding, before heading to the Atacama once more to discover one of the world’s most spectacular hotels. More chorillina in Valparaiso, more magnificent sunsets from the Valley of the Moon. Click on the pics for more info.

View Photos for: Raving in Santiago, Climbing an Erupting Volcano

My wonderful hosts in the capital of Chile allowed me to hang up the money belt and live for a week, exploring its streets and history, and also, a concert at the old train station. In the non-Austrian ski village of Pucon, I climb an active volcano the day after it erupts in the media. Click on the pics for more info.

View Photos for: Sandboarding in Death Valley, The Colour of Valparaiso

The dry Atacama desert town of San Pedro offers some mountain biking and sandboarding silliness through the dramatically, and appropriately named Death Valley and The Valley of the Moon. 24 hours on a bus leads to the colourful port city of Valparaiso, with an emphasis on colour. • Flying Doctors and the Migration of the Wildebeest

This week in East Africa, I discover two sides to a coin. The luxury, beauty and exotic wildlife of the ultimate safari, complete with butlers, five-star tents, and the migration of the wildebeest. In Nairobi, a different story, as I take to the air with the Flying Doctors, participating in a medical evacuation, and seeing the human cost of violence. This is Africa, and there is nowhere else like it.

  • Heat, Dust and Dirt Bikes in Egypt

The traffic, chaos and 3000 years of bureaucracy take their toll, but I manage to Belly Dance over the Nile anyway. After clocking in at the pyramids, it’s off to the Sinai to rock the desert by ATV, dirt bike and dune buggy. Egypt has stayed much the same since my last visit 16 years ago. I haven’t.

  • A Revolution in Cuba

Plenty of thoughts about this controversial island in the Caribbean, where tourists are herded into all-inclusive resorts while the songs of Revolution still stir. When you add a large group of journalists, expect something in the middle in this gonzo-fuelled rant about the beating heart of change.
