Remember, these are only the places I managed to get to, representing not a splash in the ocean, a fart in a hot tub, a mullet in a trailer park, a...you get the idea. Consult your Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Lets Go, Fodors, Local Shaman for dozens of other options. Sometimes, I wish I had.

Prague

Pivovasrky Dum - One of the many traditional Czech pub/restaurants, although this one brews their own flavoured beer, including chocolate and banana. The rabbit is good, the duck (with sweet red cabbage and saurkraut) is awesome. Reasonably priced too. Jecna/Lipova 15
Pizzeria Grosseto - Definitely a local favourite across the river, big delicious thin crusted pizza and tasty pastas. Jugoslavskych partyzanu 8.

Prague

Miss Sophies - Self described "experimental" hostel with real mattresses, big fluffy pillows, duvets, power showers and free internet (with flat, foam keyboards that don't really work so well but look very cool.) Friendly staff, modern building, centrally located a few blocks from Old Town. Would have slept really well if I didn't have jetlag and the guy opposite wasn't breaking the sonic boom with his snores. Lacks a vibe, but if you're after peace and quiet... Melounova, 3. Metro IP Pavlova.
Sir Toby's - Although it's a little removed from the Old Town, Sir Toby's is owned by the same guys as Miss Sophies, so it has all the little things I like in a hostel, like a mattress, pillow, good showers, underbed lockers and lots of info to send you on the way. Strangely, the Internet isn't free here, although it should be. It does have a bar though, and a lovely garden, a good vibe and being in a local neighbourhood, is also alot quieter and more authentic. It does take a few stops on the tram to get there however, but the inconvenience wasn't so bad compared to the benefits. Delnicka 24, Holesovice.
The Golden Sickle - with staff who kind of forget that they're there to serve you and not party in Prague, the Golden Sickle is not that bad, it'ss just terrible compared to what else is out there. The beds are crap, the bathrooms dirty and few, the sheets worn through, and when someone went through everyone's bags in the middle of the night, the security clearly isn't airtight. To their favour, they are central and have a huge tank with bearded dragons, who I do so adore. But their sympathy at our plight of having things ripped off (I was lucky, others not so) was not encouraging. I spent one night here, and wished I hadn't.
